Ambit Energy – No. 1 in the Inc. 500 for 2010.
You have to be the fastest growing private company in America to earn this title.
Ambit’s vision: “To build the finest and most respected retail energy company in the country.”
Few companies ever make it into the Inc. 500, let alone earn the #1 spot. And it’s even more incredible for a company to be in the Inc. 500 a second year, but Ambit has done it: Still there in 2011! There is only one company growing faster than Ambit with more revenue.

The company’s five key objectives in achieving this success:
- Deliver exceptional service and value to customers.
- Create a great culture to attract talented people.
- Build superior technology that enables innovation.
- Produce exceptional growth and financial performance.
- Provide a reliable financial opportunity for those who seek it.
Jere Thompson, Ambit’s founder and CEO, is the grandson of Joe Thompson, the man who started and built the 7-Eleven convenience store chain. So Jere comes from a business family with a hard-to-beat track record. Before Ambit, he built the CapRock Fiber Network, a company that laid the original fibre optic cable in Texas. When energy started to deregulate, he decided he wanted to be part of the soon to boom energy resale market. He founded Ambit Energy with Chris Chambless, Ambit’s Chief Marketing Officer, and John Burke, the Chief Information Officer.
John Burke, with his experience in the electrical utilities and telecommunications industries, is behind the development of Ambit’s slick software systems that automate the efficiency with which Ambit and its consultants are able to gain and serve energy customers in the field.
Chris Chambless had been with Excel Telecommunications, a company that of course made it big in the deregulating telecommunications market years previous. That company had used direct sales to build its success and Chris knew from the inside how to do that. Jere decided to do the same with Ambit. Jere wanted to do things with the highest level of respectability and be proud for anyone to scrutinize how the company runs. He has done that by following this advice from a friend:
“Never sacrifice integrity for growth”
Signs of that integrity include Ambit’s penchant for being up front with things. For instance, when Ambit quotes a rate, everything is included in that quote except the tax, even though Ambit could advertise lower rates by leaving delivery charges out. They wouldn’t be lying, but that’s not the way Jere and his company like to do business. That’s why I like selling for Ambit. Click link and click button for English to see business opportunity.
Another endearing quality is the fact that the executives of the company use $19 folding tables for desks and work in one huge open room where anyone can walk right up to them. They’re just good people.
Also, less than 5% of the company’s revenues come from fees paid by the independent consultants. The company truly makes its money selling gas and electricity at great rates!
